PSA & Q
Maybe it's being tired, maybe it's psychological, but I seem unable to comment on posts right now.

Most LJ/blog comments I make try to be cheerful/upbeat/not depressing, but it's difficult to muster the enthusiasm to honestly be that version of myself.

So, dear friends, even in my silence I'm paying attention.

the question:

What do you do when the things that usually make you happy don't cheer you up properly?

I just tried to hide and ride it out as best as possible. And I look at the Daily Puppy.

I hope things start looking up and the cheery feelings return soon!

I'm sorry you're depressed. I wish I knew what was going on to see if there's maybe some way I can help. As for your question, when my usual doesn't help, I get outside. Go for a walk/hike, enjoy nature. Silly and hippy-dippy I know but generally a lot of sunlight tends to make me feel better (and actually its scientifically proven, hence seasonal depression). Or, learn a new skill. Is there something you've always been curious about but never really had the motivation to try? How about now? :)

I find something mindless (usually a video game) to occupy my mental processes and keep my mind busy until it passes.

Granted, that frame of mind usually lasts until the end of the day unless something unexpected happens to shift it into a more positive state. So, a good night's sleep (note: a good NIGHT, not day ;P) is, in the end, the best remedy.

Sometimes when you're unhappy and just can't seem to cheer up, a little escapism can be good to ride it out. I either watch something really good or read a good book so I can ignore my own life for a bit until I have the strength to deal with whatever is getting me down.

I hope that helps some and I hope you feel better soon!
